Our Mission:
In accordance with our bylaws,
our mission is to:
- Guide and advance the continuing professional and educational
interests of the alumni of the school of library and information
science.
- Maintain among the alumni of the school a spirit of fellowship
through networking and service to librarianship.
- Assist and advance the students of the School of Library and
Information Science by guidance, gifts, grants, scholarships,
and loans. The Association will raise funds for these purposes.
In just the last year, we have done the following:
- Sixty-four people attended the videoconferenced career fair,
held November 23, 2003, at San Jose State University, California
State University in Fullerton, and Sacramento State University.
To be specific, the event attracted 37 people in San Jose, 21
in Fullerton, and 6 in Sacramento.
(Goals 1, 2)
- There was excellent attendance at the Career Fair on Saturday,
May 1, 2004 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Biblioteca Latinoamericana.
The focus of the spring Career Fair was on job searching. The
roster of speakers includes librarians, representatives of library
placement agencies, and experienced job searchers. There will
be time to ask questions afterwards as well as time for networking
and refreshments.
(Goals 1, 2)
- The SJSU SLIS Alumni Association Job Website went live! Check
it out at: http://slisgroups.sjsu.edu/alumni/jobseekers/
(Goals 1, 2, 3)
- To help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the San Jose State
School of Library and Information Science in November, 2004, the
Alumni Association created a Memory
Book for alums to post their recollections of the School.
(Goal 2)
- We have contributed more than $5000.00 to the Terry Crowley
